Google Says Disavow Links Only If You’re Unsure About Potential Risks
Google’s John Mueller clarified that most websites do not need to use the disavow links tool, but it can still be used if site owners feel uncertain about potentially harmful backlinks. The statement came in response to concerns about spam sites creating links that redirect through tracking URLs or link wrappers. In some cases, these links may not actually point to the website but could still raise concerns for SEO teams. Mueller explained that if webmasters feel conflicted and want reassurance, submitting a disavow file is acceptable. However, Google generally ignores random spam links automatically, so the tool is rarely required for most websites.
