If you’ve ever attended a Digital Marketing seminar, or done any reading about how to boost your business’s visibility online, then you’ve no doubt been told that you need Google reviews. Getting Google reviews is crucial to your success, and studies say that customers spend 31% more money with companies that have great reviews.

Although these reviews are done through Google and posted on your Google My Business page, it is not necessary for a reviewer to have a Gmail account.

 

Here are the 3 steps to creating a Google review without a Gmail account:

 

1. Find the Business You’re Reviewing

Start by finding the business’s Google My Business listing. Businesses looking to collect reviews from clients should consider sending their listing directly so reviewers don’t have to go searching.

2. Create Your Review

Once you’ve found the Google My Business listing scroll down to the grey ‘Write a Review’ button above the previous reviews. Give your own star rating out of 5, and write about your experiences with the company.

3. Signing In

This is where most people get confused about needing a Gmail account for these reviews. You will be prompted to leave your review without signing in through Google, click the ‘Create Account’ button and select either ‘For Myself’ or for businesses choose ‘To Manage my Business’

The next page will allow you to click ‘Use my current email address instead’ to put in your email.

Getting good reviews on Google My Business is extremely important when you’re looking to boost word-of-mouth referrals. 85% of customers trust online reviews as much as they would a recommendation from someone they know.

Even negative reviews can be good for a business - within reason of course. When a business has exclusively 5 star reviews, some customers become distrustful and skeptical that your business is ‘too good to be true’.

Answering your Google reviews, both positive and negative, is also incredibly important as it shows customers that you care about their feedback and opinions. It can give you the chance to reach out and make amends with an unsatisfied customer, and to thank happy customers for their continued support.

At MacRAE’S we generally recommend trying to get one or two reviews every few weeks. This number can vary depending on what industry you are in, and whether you’re a B2B or B2C business, but as a rule of thumb one review a week is ideal. Be careful not to ask too many of your clients for reviews all at once, if you get too many in a short period of time it may seem as though you ‘bought’ reviews rather than earning them through your excellent services.
